These processes are used to cut metals, each one working by a specific functional principle. Plasma-cutting creates an arc between the electrode and the treated piece, then forces compressed air through which creates a plasma flow near light velocity and temperatures around 20.000°C. Laser-cutting uses a very intense light beam in order to cut materials.
Filtration in this application has to evaluate the following specific parameters:
- air charged with greasy/oily fumes and chemical composites coming from degreasing or lubrificant liquids, as well as fused coatings
- very low particle size
- presence of contaminants that are irritating (e.g. ozone, hydrocarbons, phosgene), toxic or cancerogenous (e.g. lead, cadmium, fluorides, nickel)
- possible risk of fire
